Lovely to see that Boubathi has joined the local government secondary school. He has joined his former Crakehall Primary School classmates after spending time in a special school. At the start of the new school year, Pushpa and Kaniammal are measuring upthe Crakehall Primary School, Mettupalayam pupils for their free school uniform. The Kuruvi tribal children are new starters this year, so don't have uniforms at present. It is so good to see these two Mettupalayam village ladies still benefitting from the tailoring training that Karen gave them some years ago. As well as being paid by IRDT to make these uniforms, they are always busy making sari blouses. Their income gives them a very important financial independence.A mention just to say that donations from our supporters pays all the costs of these uniforms and the tailoring, benefitting so many families ... The summer rain has arrived early in Mettupalayam. Perfect timing as the 8 acres of organic rice and some ragi have been harvested, giving Venkat and his farm workers time now to start ploughing ready for the next crops.Farming in this very dry area is always dependant on the two monsoon seasons, filling up the wells and boosting ground water levels. Over the years, Venkat has put in such a lot of time and effort, building our water retention lagoon and deepening and extending our farm wells. ... See MoreSee Less

Coming towards the end of the school year, and the 5th standard school leavers from our Crakehall School, Mettupalayam are joined by some of the Irula tribal children from Kavakarai colony in a trip to the seaside.Mamallapuram is famous for its sea temples and Shiva's butterball, a huge round boulder perched precariously on a steep slope. Thank you to Venkat for arranging this outing and I'm sure all the children had a truly memorable day out. ... See MoreSee Less
